Image Annotations

Comment on images at a specific position on a ticket, follow the discussion as a timeline, and hand off the annotated state as a .spsx package.

Screenshots on a ticket are often the fastest way to explain a problem -- but "the icon top right" or "the spacing in the second block" is hard to pin down in words. Image annotations let you comment directly at the spot on the image you mean, and follow the whole discussion in the ticket's comment thread.

Marking a Spot on an Image

  1. Open an image attached to a ticket.
  2. Turn on Mark.
  3. Click the exact spot you want to comment on. A marker appears at that position.
  4. Type your note into the Note at this spot … field and click Save.

Each marker stays at a fixed position on the image, so it's always clear what a remark refers to. The image shows how many annotations it has (for example 3 annotations), and you can delete a marker you no longer need via Delete annotation.

The Comment Thread as a Timeline

Markers aren't a separate side channel. Every annotation shows up as an annotation card in the ticket's comment thread, which is now laid out as a single timeline: comments, reactions and annotation cards sit together in chronological order.

  • From a marker on the image, Show in comment thread jumps you to the matching card in the conversation.
  • The card shows who added the annotation and the note text (or No text if the marker has no note yet).

This means you can discuss an image the same way you'd discuss anything else on the ticket -- except every point knows exactly where on the image it belongs.

Exporting and Importing .spsx on a Ticket

A Spedy Selection Package (.spsx) bundles a ticket's images, their positioned annotations and the related comment threads into a single file. On a ticket you have two actions:

  • Export .spsx -- downloads the current ticket's images, annotations and comment threads as a package. Use it to hand off an annotated state or archive it.
  • Import .spsx -- loads a package into the ticket. The screenshots inside become attachments with their positioned markers and comment threads restored. Spedy tells you how many annotations and comments were created.

This is how you move an annotated state between tickets, or bring one in from the Spedy browser extension, without losing the markers and the discussion around them.

Note: Importing a .spsx when creating a new ticket works exactly as before -- see SPSX Import. The export/import actions described here operate on an existing ticket.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need special permissions? No -- anyone who can comment on a ticket can add image annotations and export or import a ticket's .spsx package.

Where do my markers go? Every marker becomes an annotation card in the ticket's comment thread, in chronological order alongside the other comments.

What file type is accepted for import? Only files with the .spsx extension. If a package is corrupt or the wrong type, an error message explains what went wrong and nothing is imported.
